Cleaning the MFD

Did a search for this, and ran across this topic, but I was looking for more input.

How do you clean your MFD screen? There's nothing in the owner's manual that I could find.

Computer LCD screens are supposed to be cleaned with a dry static free cloth, since static can ruin a LCD. Wouldn't the same hold true for the MFD? I need to get something to wipe off those grubby prints I've left behind, but I'm not sure a dry cloth will do the trick.

And before you suggest a screen protector, realize that I need to clean the screen first.

I've heard that you treat it like any touch LCD screen and clean accordingly. I use the same cloth and spray (it's sprayed on the cloth) for my computer screen.

I use glass wipes, which are basically moistened towelettes. They keep fine in the moisture-locked can in my center console. Because they are moist, they are static-free.

PS: I also turn off my display before I clean it, so as not to confuse it...

Which cloth/spray, please? I think I've seen what you're referring to at an office supply store. Is it made for cleaning LCDs?

BTW, I still have one of those old fashioned computer monitors, so I haven't cleaned a LCD before.

I've used the eyglass cleaner pre moistened pads you can get at most eyeglass shops. They've done the job quite well.
Also there is This Product should also do the job quite well. I would caution you though, if you use the spray, spray it on the cloth then use the damp cloth to wipe the screen, I wouldn't want the cleaner seeping into unknown areas of my MFD.

I work for an airline and we have several hundred of the touch screen self service check-in kiosks. They are the same type of LCD touchscreen panels as in the Prius. We've never had any damaged from any cleaning agents. Allthough we did have a couple get broken by an irate customer putting his fist through it (damn thing wouldn't give him a first class seat on his $49 super saver fare).

But that shouldn't be a problem with the Prius since you allready have first class seating... :P

I use klear screen (www.klearscreen.com). I have used this on my computer for some time and like it. I also bought a eraser that is like an automatic pencil. I extends with a twist and I use it to touch the screen with out leaving a greasy finger print on the screen! I got it at Office Depot. and clipped it on my display hood. Works great. Keeps the screen clear. I have to say it is not my idea. One of the people in the hospital cafeteria uses one to work the touch screen on the check out register.

I keep a couple of microfiber eyeglass cleaning cloths in the center console drawer. They work very well for me. Every few months, I toss them into the wash to remove the oilly residue (very minimal). I've not found it necessary to moisten the MFD or the microfiber cloths.

I got it from CompUSA when I got my LCD monitor. It's designed for cleaning LCDs. Just remember to spray on the cloth, rather than the screen itself.

I went to Kragen and got a blue microfiber cloth. It works ont he MFD screen and also takes dust off the dash without any cloth residue. I use it dry on the MFD with light pressure.

I found a wipe wand called "Clean Dr." It's a microfiber cloth wrapped around a tube, attached to a handle. The wand is the perfect size for the MFD. It comes with a cleaning spray in a small bottle, which fits into the handle. But I didn't even need to use the spray. The dry cloth cleaned my MFD like a charm!
