Not sure why my mpg is higher than what I am reading here.
I just bought my Prius 3 weeks ago (and loving every minute of it).
Right now I avg. 49.5 mpg.

I bought mine in Feb 08. I was ave. 48 MPG in the winter. April in May I am getting 53. Part of the increase is do to the warmer weather. I live in the Boston area but also I am coasting a lot more and I am coasting without regeneration being done. This allow for much longer coasting and you maintain you spend for longer.

I also start off slower and and think ahead more. I guess you could say I have learned how to drive my Prius.

I love it

Mark

It takes a solid 2-3k miles to break in the tires alone. The rest of the mechanical components seem to take around 6k miles or so.

1)Buy a nice tire guage--the digitals are convenient and easy to read.
2)Buy a rechargable/portable air pump combo jump starter and use it to maintain your tire pressures (see article above)
3)Learn to check your oil level
4)Just drive it...play with different techniques, for sure, but don't hold up traffic, don't be a traffic risk, just have fun and with time you'll start seen the kind of mileage you're hoping for (there are, of course, exceptions. But we'll address those in the Spring)
I am a new 2009 Prius owner and I must say that I love the car and this forum so far (driven about 1,200 miles). I am getting the hang of pulse and glide and have seen my mileage increase without altering the tire pressure as of yet. This leads me to my question - can you provide links to the model of tire gauge and portable air pump that you mention above?

Also is there a newbie link for checking the oil level? Also is there additional information on why this is important right from the get go with the Prius? This might be in the owners manual but I am on a business trip at the moment. Thank you so much for the fantastic forum!
