I got some wax on the black plastic bit at the base of the windshield and the SKS lock button. How do I remove it? It's to the point where it looks like I had white paint splashed onto the black plastic.

Well I've done the same thing but it never turned white as yours did. Different kind of wax maybe? I have read here that some kinds of dish soap, Dawn is one I think, will remove wax. If that doesn't work you might try something which would be a solvent like WD-40, then wash the WD-40 off with soap and water. Did you read the wax container and see if they offer any suggestions? you might even see if the wax company has a web site and email them for advice.

I have used dawn dishwashing liquid in the past but works best when you get it off right away... The penut butter thing I have never heard but interesting and probably worth a try, I hate wax on plastic.

I was using Mothers Paste Carnuaba wax. I usually use Turtle Liquid wax but decided to try paste wax since people say it lasts longer Turtle wax...

Anyway, yeah it's as if I used a paint brush and painted that black plastic piece with white paint. Fingernail will not scrap anything off.

I'll try the peanut butter method since I have some at home.

Mineral spirits or turpentine will dissolve wax almost immediately, also kerosene.

Prelude Cleaner is about $6.

Peanut Butter does fine. (Creamy not Chunky :P )

It also removes chewing gum from hair. It's truely a miracle cleaner.

Wouldn't peanut oil work just as well with less of its own cleanup necessitated or is the peanut paste needed as an abrasive?

Any auto store with a decent selection of car care products should have something for removing excess dried on wax from trim parts. From Griot's Garage (on-line), you can get a product called "Dried On Wax Remover" and someone else makes one called "Black Again". I've have used both and they work fine.

You're a genius! I tried peanut butter (yeah yeah, it's creamy Tempus lol) and voila! the white mark disappeared.

Thanks!

Edit: Works on road tar on the paint too!
