Hi all, just got my 2004 Prius over the weekend, at Carmax. Traded my 2001 VW Jetta TDI for it. The cars milage is 16,600, and the maint required light is on. Does this just mean I need to change the oil? How do I reset it? Thanks in advance!

The light starts blinking 4500 miles after the last reset and will be steady from 5000 on. It's merely a reminder for the oil change. To reset you

1) Make sure the ODO/TRIP is on ODO (not Trip A or B )
2) Power off
3) Hold down ODO/TRIP while powering up.
4) Continue holding and the odometer will show -------- and do a countdown by having the "-" go away. When it ends, release and it's reset.

Did you get an Owner's Manual? If so, it's on pages 122-123.

I would get confirmation/proof from Carmax that they did an oil change. If not get it changed because the car is probably overdue.

When you change the oil tell them in advance not to overfill it. Use no more than 3.5 quarts.

Be sure to get an owner's manual and read the relevant parts. It has a lot you need to know.

If you take it to a dealer for the oil change, you can bring in your own oil (I use Mobile 1) and have them use that. Just bring in 3 quarts and tell them you'll fill the rest later.
