I just ordered a 2006 silver Prius, package 5 with leather added at cost.

I know I can get the platinum warantee for $950 after I've had the car a while, but I was wondering if there is anything else I need to get that I have to get AT the dealer's when I'm in the closing meeting with the finance people. I HATE buying cars...VERY intimidated, so I want to be prepared for whatever they throw at me. I would appreciate any advice you can give me.

It is, of course, up to you. But I'd say "no", and they can be very persuasive, give you numbers like "this only increases your monthly payment by $5." kind of things. But ultimately whatever they're selling is purely for dealership profits and will ultimately limit your options later on. Just practice saying "no thank you" over and over and over again.

Second that. You don't need any of that last minute paint sealant fabric protection et cetera crap. I just sat there and smiled like an idiot and said "no, thanks". After a little while they went away and came back with the car I wanted :->

It may not be too late for you to benefit from Consumer Reports' car buying advice, available free at http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cars.htm

Thanks for that advice. I bought my car package 5 for sticker, but he threw in the floormats for free, (normally $189) and the cargo net and 1st aid kit too. He also let me upgrade to leather seats for $900 (normally $1100 more), so I think I did pretty good. Six out of the other 10 dealers I spoke to for pricing wanted up to $3000 over sticker, and no one would go below sticker. I think that part is handled because I got it all in the salesman's handwriting on the day of the order. I kept looking online, but I couldn't find a Prius for less than sticker anywhere, so I guess I did pretty good.

I will just sit there and smile and say "No thank you." over & over at the close. Thanks so much for the advice.

dutch, if you got THAT much, you're the one who should be giving lessons here.

Or is your sales guy a former priest?
