Friends: 0 | Always a day late (in this case a few months) and a dollar short (in this case more than that!) Just came from the dealer where my my friendly service rep recommended replacement of my Cabin Air Filter (this was the first time and @ 35,000 miles) for a mere $23.60 + $1.42 sales tax + $10.80 labor = $35.82. Why do I have to be the one pumping more money into the economy? Thanks for all the advice on this thread - next time. |

Friends: 0 | I bought 3M filters after I saw this at fatwallet: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messagevie...337&start=0 I bought 2 and paid $35 after entered coupon code. That's about $17/piece that includes microfiber cloth and glass cleaning cloth. Bad thing about this mail order is that it didn't mail you a confirmation or anything. You wouldn't know when you will get it. I received mine 3 weeks after I ordered. It came in two separate priority mail boxes. |

1. Open the glovebox (remove items from the box if necessary) 2. Locate the strut on the right side of the box. 3. Remove the connector arm thingy that links the strut to the box 4. Push in the sides of the box and lower the box (did you take out the items?) 5. Locate the air filter holder and remove it. 6. Replace air filter 7. Replace holder. Take note of which side is the top 8. Locate the strut and connect it back to the box 9. Push the sides in and replace the box Done! Yes I've had all services done at Toyota. The only difference I did was rotate the tyres at the 2nd oil change (16,000km). Toyota links the tyre rotation to the full maintenance but since the first 3 are oil changes, you skip the 16,000km rotation (I rotate them once a year or 16,000km). That way, I get even wear and my tyres have worn evenly.

Friends: 35 | https://www.autohausaz.com/Changed my engine air filter today and boy was it dirty! I thought I'd TTT this thread for others who might be looking for cheap filter replacments. I'm going to order more filters from AutohausAZ again. The last ones worked great and were cheaper than from the dealer. In case you don't see my post about modifying the air filter to work, you don't need a Dremel tool. A pair of dikes or gargen clippers will work fine. The engine air filter part # I used is: 17801-21040P *EDIT* Hell with it. They changed the part # and now the filter is $15.96/ea. I'm just going to order a K&N from Crutchfield lol

Friends: 1 | What if I just removed the cabin air filter and did not replace it. I am used to breathing unfiltered outside air and I would not complain. Would the car complain? My first thought is I am decreasing the load on the blower motor which is good right? I would probably put in some screen material to prevent big leaves or other getting in the system. Any problems tossing the filter and using a screen? |
