I followed the instructions in the Owners Manual, or at least I think I did, but the opener on the rear view mirror in the 2006 won't open my garage door. Any suggestions, constructive or otherwise? Thanks. Larry

Does your garage door opener have a rolling code? Many of the new ones do. If so, the instructions are somewhat more complex. If not, it may be that you didn't hold the button long enough when programming. I had that problem the first couple of times I tried. Also, you have to hold the button for a second or two when opening; just tapping the button won't work.

Thanks for the tips, Tom.
No, my opener is an old one and it doesn't have a rolling code.

I tried to program each of the 3 openers on the mirror, all without success.

The manual said to hold down the buttons until the red led stops flashing fast.
The red led on my mirror didn't ever flash fast, it remained steady for about
30 seconds and then flashed slowly. That's when I thought I had programmed it.
Was that correct?

Larry

No, you have to keep going. I had the same trouble. I thought I had it when it flashed slowly, but if you keep going it will flash fast and then stop. It takes a little time.

(In addition to what Tom said above) With my garage door, I have to hold the HL (HomeLink) button on the Prius rearview mirror for a second before the garage door responds... just pushing it and letting go doesn't work.

ALSO, my garage door opener has a button in the back called "Learn". All I had to do, to program my Prius Homelink, was hit that button (at which point an LED on the garage door unit flashed) then run to the Prius and hold in the HL button on the rearview mirror. After about 3 seconds my garage door light bulb flashed a couple of times to let me know that it had picked up the Prius signal and the programing was complete.

In addition to what the others have said, try changing the batteries in the garage door opener then try programming the Homelink again.

My dealer programmed the Homelink for me, but with me sitting right there. From what I recall, he held the garage door opener a couple inches from the Homelink/mirror (aimed the opener's LED directly at it), then pressed the first Homelink button in and held it there while simultaneously pressing down on the garage door opener button, until the red light on the Homelink/mirror flashed. It worked well, but I do have to hold in the Homelink button for a couple of seconds for it to open the garage door.

HAHA

We just did this last night for our 3 garage doors!

My house was built in 2000, so it is the new rolling code type.
Had to:

Press & hold remote & homelink button about 2 inches apart until homelink light flashed slowly and THEN quickly.

Press LEARN button on garage door opener itself.

Press homelink button again 3 times (holding it each time for about 1-2 seconds). The 3rd press actually opens (or closes) the door.

Voila!

Now all 3 buttons in my car work! :-)

Tom:

I tried again with all 3 openers.

I was able to get one of them to the quick flashing stage, but not the other two.

I kept pressing my remote and the mirror opener until my fingers started to hurt but the quick flashes
never came on. In fact, after a while the LED just went out. I wonder if my mirror opener is defective?

I've also been completely unable to program the garage door opener. I assumed it has something to do with the fact that our garage door opener is about 25 years old, but still working perfectly.

Anyone know if there's such a thing as "too ancient" for home link to support?
