Hi,

Thanks to this forum, I am planning to cancel the extended warranty and prepaid service plan I paid $2,100 for (San Jose, CA). I will consider buying both through PriusChat...!

The documentation I received says only that you need to return to the dealer to cancel within 30 days.

I don't want to spend all day at the dealer doing this. If there are others who did this, can you direct me on the most expeditious method for cancelling these purchases? Where to go within the dealership, who to speak to?

Any information welcome.

thanks!

Hi Vince,

I cancelled the prepaid maintenance plan I purchased with my car in San Jose. I called the finance director who completed the paperwork when I purchased the car and she told me to make a copy of the prepaid maintenance program application and send it to her along with a letter saying I wanted to cancel. I sent the items to her on 4-3-06 and got a check from Toyota last week.

I just cancelled my warranty (bought here thru PriusChat) on my 2005 because I traded it in.

Because the dealership was not local to me, I was able to fax them [EDIT: When I say "them", I mean Toyota Extra Care, NOT the dealer... ] a cancellation letter, a copy of my lien fulfillment and the agreement and they will generate the refund check.

I haven't gotten it yet, but it was fairly smooth process.

I believe this fax in/mail in option is available to anyone who is not "conveniently" located by the dealer they purchased it from. They don't really verify this, so I'm sure you could use this route if you wanted to.

All the address information is located on the agreement contract, but I had to call them to get a FAX number to send to. I would also advise calling about 15 minutes after faxing to ensure they received it. (That was the only hassle I had so far.)

Vince,

I just canceled a prepaid service plan - also in San Jose. The contract stated that the plan can be cancelled for a full refund within 60 days if not used. I did it through the dealer finance dept. as I wanted a copy of the cancellation. It only took about 10 minutes - of course I had to listen for the entire time about what a mistake I was making. I just kept smilling and signed the cancellation notice once completed.

I did this in 1995 after buying a Jeep Cherokee. I read a few books about how these things are way overpriced. (I am looking to get one here for my new Prius, though.) I, too, had to listen to what a mistake I was making and how it would not change my payment. "Man, and I sold that to you at only $100 over cost." Yeah, right.

I mailed mine in.

The contract came with cancellation instructions, address, etc.

FYI, Stevens Creek Toyota tried to charge me well over MSRP for these contracts, and tried typical pressure tactics (this price is only good now, not tomorrow, etc.) I've heard that Capitol Toyota is worse. Piercey Toyota (N San Jose) seems to be much better and more professional.

Before you cancel be sure you can purchase it through the PriusChat program. I have tried unsuccessfully to get any response from the "PriusChat warranty" site. I filled out the form (twice) and have never been contacted. There is no e-mail or phone number offered to follow-up on the request, so I'm beginning to question how legitimate this offer is. If someone has been successful in making contact, I would love to here how you did it.

Since we live in Wichita and were quite disgusted with our local dealer (they do NOT have a good reputation) we contacted a dealer 2 hours away.

They have been a delight. With their assistance, and due to a paperwork snag on the part of the local dealer, we were actually able to cancel our purchase of our Barcelona Red Prius (had it 3 days) to our local dealer.

For the price they had charged us for a 7/75,000 warranty and 4/55,00 prepaid service, we have been able to order (and will be picking up next week) a Driftwood Pearl with added leather and window tinting, plus the 7/100,00 and 4/55,000!

Their DEALER pricing: 4/55,000 mile Prepaid maintenance @ $815 & 7 year/100,00 warranty @ $970 (7/75,000 was somewhere in the high $600's).
