Headlight help

my left front headlight bulb burned out, so i when and got replacement piaa ones at the local autoparts store. now i got out the owners manual and followed the instructions. the right side took all of 5 seconds to change. ez as pie now the driver side one i cant get that rubber ring off. i get it to turn it just wont pop out. if that fuse block wasnt there it would probably be easier. any sugestions?

so now i got one new headlight and the one that was burned out is still burend out

Keep pulling. Or perhaps I should say, if it is laid out the same as the classic Prius, keep pulling.

Just make sure that the new bulbs you install are extremely clean. A little smudge on them soon becomes carbon, and then you have uneven heat flow across the quartz glass surface, and then you get crackage.

Which PIAA bulbs did you choose? Because I would be interested to know their advantages over Sylvania Silverstar bulbs.

i got the h4. only reason i got them was it was all they had that matched. i will give more pulling another shot tomorrow.

IMO i hate these PIAA n Silverstar bulbs, they do give u a white look
but its not real HID
i duno if prius can do those HID plug n play kit, but those r much better
much brighter

the drivers side light works exactly the same as the passenger side. it's just a whole lot more of a PITA to actually get to. keep on it, it'll come with some work.

At the risk of hijacking a perfectly good thread (bwahaha), I have not had the opportunity to compare the lighting provided by HIDs vs. the Silverstar/PIAA conventionals. It may very well be that the HIDs "shine" umch better.

But when I read about those very few Prius drivers who have had their cars mauled in the course of HID "unauthorized removal", my interest in having their road-lighting option is somewhat diminshed.

I would really appreciate it if somebody could give me a detailed description for removing the driver's side bulb cover on a 2005. I removed the fuse box cover because my hand couldn't even fit, and was finally able to get it turn far enough that the edge could pull out, but the rubber in the center is still firmly attached to something. Any pulling of it is putting direct pressure on the bulb now, which isn't supposed to come out until after the stupid cover is removed.

I am also a bit surprised by this burning out so fast, I cannot ever remember another car losing a bulb so quickly (less than a year and a half).

My hands hurt, it is cold outside, and I am getting a bit frustrated. Mainly I don't want to force it and break something.

Any advice would definitely be appreciated.

Nevermind, I got it. For the next person doing a search, yep, just keeping tugging on it. The rubber has threading to keep it gripping on tight, so it does not slip easily off even once you've got the outside ring detached. For the clip put the pressure up, on the side that is in toward the engine.
