Has anyone had a problem with an '06 Prius "jumping out of gear"?
I know the gear select lever is an electronic device, not a "normal" shift lever.
Yesterday, at a traffic light, the car had to be reset to drive. I don't know how it got out of drive in the first place. I don't believe the shift lever was touched or the Park button pushed.

It has not happened since.

Any and all help is appreciated.

When you say "reset" to drive, does that mean you had to push the Power button to OFF, then On again?
Or did it just require being put back into "D" drive with the shifter lever?

What was it in? Park, neutral, reverse, or B?

Go to the dealership and ask them to pull the codes. Who knows? Maybe there was some kind of problem with the transmission ECU.

My wife was driving the car alone. She said she just put it in "D" drive with the shifter lever. She did not power down.

Thanks for the response.

My wife didn't notice what it was in. Traffic and frustration prevented this. She'll notice next time if it happens again.

Thanks

If it happens again I'll do just that.

Thanks

Still not clear on what was done. She had it in Drive, pulled up to a complete stop at a stop light, didn't touch anything other than the steering wheel, and when she lifted her foot off of the brake, it was no longer in Drive? What gear was it in? *EDIT* Oh, I guess you said she didn't notice.

She said the car wouldn't move when she took her foot off the brake and pressed the accelerator. She then moved the shift lever to Drive. Since the lever always moves back to the same position she would have had to notice the display to know what gear the car was in.

Thanks

hmm... well, without knowing what gear the car thought it was in after releasing the brakes, I think the best we may be able to provide you with is only wild speculation... not to say there wouldn't be any if you knew the gear, either!
