Alright, so here's my situation

I was at the border and I was cycling the car on and off to conserve battery (that and using the EV mod). After cycling roughly 5 times in 3-5 mins, I noticed that my Energy Monitor showed no bars, pressing the side buttons resulted in no beeps and a delayed response. Pressing CLIMATE shows "Check Connection of Air Conditioner", the radio doesn't work and pressing CONSUMPTION results in a slow delay and an empty Consumption screen with no bars, no average and the instant FE bar at full. The only thing that works on the MFD is the wheels. They still move when I move and stop when I stop.

The car didn't let me engage EV mode and after I crossed the border, acceleration resulted in very high revs from the engine as if my battery was drained to two bars (it was at 4 bars before the failure).

When I got home, I cycled on/off several times, using both IG-ON and READY mode but neither has resulted in fixing the MFD.

And if there's any relation, yes I installed the DICE unit. Also, I had the steering wheel recall and 32,000km full maintenance on Wednesday.

Any thoughts on this?

In another thread, the DICE unit was implacated as the culprit. Scan the recent messages for MFD troubles and you may find it. Maybe try disconnecting the DICE?

Found the thread.

Yeah but I tried not to jump to a quick conclusion and assume it's DICE's fault just because someone else had it fail because of DICE.

I will try to disconnect it and reboot the car and see if it works. The "Check Connection of Air Conditioner" might be the clue that because I didn't hear a click when I installed the DICE unit, it may have come loose.

Hmm...

Ok, so this morning, I decided to attempt to remove the DICE unit and reboot and see what happens. I couldn't get the DICE unit to unplug from the radio but the fiddling around with that plug and other wires seemed to have solved the MFD issue because when I turned the car to ACC to check the time, then cycled through IG-ON to turn the car off, I noticed the battery display worked. Then I checked the radio and it played, my Consumption screen is also back to normal.

In short, I have no idea what I did but apparently there must've been a loose connection or what not that fiddling around seemed to have helped. I'll report back if any other issues arise.

long time ago when doing beta stuff with the CAN-view Norm and I found out that if the CAN doesn't see what it should IE radio on the address of the buss after about 15-20 minutes the MFD goes blank. So it's possible that the CAN doesn't recgonise the DICE unit at the buss address that it's on stops the MFD signal.

That's interesting.

I have a DICE and have used it almost exclusively (other than AM/FM, CD) for the past month. My commute is at least 30 minutes each way. I'll have to see if I get the same symptoms.

I'd hate to think it was the DICE. Heck, I got the iPod because of the DICE.

Well, depends how well you installed it I suppose. I know I have some wires from the adapter next to the empty slot where the DICE plugs into that may be affected by the DICE plug.

Soooo, is it suggested that if one hasn't gotten around to the DICE install yet, one should put it off for a while longer?...

It could be that the DICE unit was designed to work on a standard Prius stero system instead of the JBL system and they both reside at different address on the buss. If the manufacture doesn't have a means of telling the CAN it's address it just might stall the CAN and shut down the MFD.
