Just over 4500 miles - Maint Required light blinks

I've read here that the Maintenance Required light comes on and blinks when you hit 4500 miles and then stays on solid when you hit 5000 miles. So I've been expecting that light.

Well, I just hit that 4500 mile mark, and my light blinks when I start up the car but then goes out as soon as the ICE starts up, and stays out until I next start up the car and the ICE starts. Is this normal? Is there some mileage point where the light comes on and STAYS on? As long as I'm taking it to the dealer for the 5000 mile maintenance, I might as well know if this blinking light going out when the ICE start is something that should be 'fixed'.

It's normal. It's a gentle reminder at first, with the blinking getting longer as it gets closer to 5,000.

comes on solid at 5000 procedure for re-setting is in your owners manual.

Thanks! I'll keep an eye out to see when it starts blinking longer. Clever! It took me a while to figure out that it stops blinking when the ICE comes on - at first I thought it stopped blinking when I put it into gear.

Yep! I'm there too. I was concerned at first when I saw the light come on, but when it went off when the ICE came on, I pretty much figured out what it was for. Well... figured it out thanks to you all here at prius chat anyway!

I'm at 4950 miles and expect the blinking to go solid probably today or tomorrow. I'll get Trixie in for service next week.
