Hit my Prius!!! I just got it on Friday 9/29 in time for the tax break. I was inside my apt all day mind you when I went out to check the mail. Sure enough someone had knocked off my driver's side mirror, took off some paint from the door and put many a dent in it. I used just about every curse word I know once I saw it. I asked a few neighbors who of course saw nothing. What I'm really wondering is why didn't the alarm go off? I was under the impression that it would go off if someone hit the car while no one was in it. Is there an alarm that I could purchase that would go off whenever someone hit, pushed or shoved the car? What good is the alarm if it doesn't go off when someone gets their grubby little hands on it?

Still pissed and I'll be stalking the parking lot later this evening looking for any and all culprits.

Dude, that sucks. I'm sorry to hear that your new baby was violated.
It's possible that it was an accident or it's possible that some people just simply don't like it when other people have nice things. Most likely the latter.

Oh yeah, I just remembered, the mirrors pivot forward as well as backward, so if someone hit it driving past, it most likely would have pivoted. So it seems that someone most likely did it on purpose.

I'm really annoyed that there are people that petty here. I'm moving back to the sticks and quick.

Tlyke,

I'm so sorry your new car has been damaged, and so soon after taking delivery! The fact that you car has been damaged is a letdown, but the bigger disappointment is how people just don't seem to care about anyone else but themselves.

If your car was hit by accident, for example, you'd thing someone would put a note with their name and phone number under the windshield wiper. It's the right thing to do. But no, they probably didn't have insurance and so they chose to selfishly saddle you with the cost. Unfortunately, this kind of thing happens all the time.

If your car was vandalized, then the likely reasons are manifold but they all boil down to selfishness in one form or another...

Sorry.

I just read your description again. When you say that they "took off some paint from the door and put many a dent in it" do you mean the door itself? And if so, do you think that they actually tore the mirror down and off? That's pretty much the only way you can do it since it pivots. I'm just thinking that when they tore it off with a downward force, it banged against the door leaving the dents.

I hope you have vandalism insurance and a small deductible.

Yes, the "many a dent" description had me wondering, too. Could vandals -- if that's what this was -- have kicked the door repeatedly? Do any of the dents have sharp creases or are they all relatively smooth-edged?

The cop said that it looked like someone had done it by hand and it was deliberate. He said the dents don't sppear to be from a door (they're too big) or from a car sliding past. The dents are low on the door maybe about the middle half. Too far away from teh mirror since the mirror is still hanging on by all those cords in there. MFer's. I'm tempted to be as petty as they were and go around breaking everyone one elses side mirror. Absolutely ridiculous. I worked very hard for that car and some knuckle head is really pushing my buttons. On the plus side the ins. co says I won't have to pay the full deductible for some reason or other and the cops will be sending someone out to talk to the other residents and look at surrounding cars. I've just finished taping my mirror back on so it's not banging about until Wed. when I can get it fixed. Now I'm headed out to a local watering hole where it's $10 for all you can drink night. I need it.

Thank You and Good Night

Sorry to hear about your plight, but "all you can drink for $10"? My kind of joint! Might be worth a drive to MD, except I probably wouldn't be able to drive back...

Sorry to hear about this. A couple of weeks after I took delivery of my car my driver side view mirror was shattered. There was no damage to the side of my car though. I came to the conclusion it was probably an accident although I couldn't quite understand how somebody sideswiping it by accident could have completely shattered the mirror (no damage to the mirror housing).
