"normal" aircon sound

ok, just wondering what you guys hear when you're out of your prius, engine ready but ICE is not running, but aircon is on. what is the "normal" sound? just wondering coz i hear a buzzing sound, sorta high pitched, not as quiet as i'd expected it to be, and seems like it's gotten 'louder', or maybe it's just me. i have nothing to compare to, sure would like to see another prius around to compare engine/aircon sounds.

I just heard this today, it does sound a little funny, but when have you ever heard of a car with the air running but the engine off? I guess that's just what it sounds like.

I don't know if the air conditioning compressor runs at a higher speed, but it does make a whining sound. When you're stopped at a light, or in stealth mode with the A/C on, people will think that you have a futuristic gas turbine car.

good to know i'm not the only one hearing this. i guess i just seldom step out of the car while it's running and when i did so, was surprised by the sound i heard because inside, stealth really sounds and feels like stealth. :wink:
