Northern VA County/City Decal Removal

For all of you who are out in Northern VA, do you have any good trick of removing the county/city decal? I tried to remove them so I can put a new one on. They are so darn difficult to remove!!!

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

I bought a scraper from the dollar store that has worked for me in the past. It's original purpose was to scrape paint off of windows when you're too lazy to use painters' tape. It's nothing more than a razor blade with a handle. With enough pressure, it will remove the sticky residue as well.

Or you could go to your neighborhood mechanic (who does state inspections) and ask them to scrape it off for you. They use a similar scraper to remove the state inspection stickers.

I turned to Scotch-brite. Worked pretty well...just messy. Will try the scraper next year.
