Maintenance Required Warning Light Question

I have a 2006 Package 6 Prius with only 7900 miles. The only service I've had thus far was a scheduled dealership oilchange.

I just recently noticed that when I start the car up, the maintenance required warning light blinks 5 times, then disappears completely. I don't recall noticing this before. Is this the norm? Has anyone else noticed this?

The blinking on start up begins at the 4,500 miles mark after the Maintenance Required light was reset. At the 5,000 miles mark it will become solid and remain on until reset once again.

Might I ask, does the car also keep track of months, as well as miles, and display the warning light at, say 5.5 months?

I'm proud to say that I'm not going to get close to driving 5,000 miles in six months...

Nope, it only tracks miles. It starts blinking at 4,500 miles, and then at 5,000 miles since the last reset, it stays on all the time.

anyone know if I can reset the light to blink close to even 5000 miles intervals again. Last time I forgot to reset the light so I drove with the light for like 400 miles so obviously my light blinks every 5000 miles from the time it was reset not when the oil was actually changed. I want it to blink at the right intervals again. Is that possible? Parheps I should just reset the light next time I change oil even though the light won't be on.

Yes, you can reset the maintenance light at any time and it will then remind you 4500/5000 miles later.

The Navigation system has maintenance reminders that, when set, track by both miles and time.

I tried resetting my maintenance reminders via the nav screen. Yet, the blinking warning light is still there. Is there another way to reset it?

It's in the manual but I'm not near my car at the moment. I think you hold down the ODO button while you power up and for a few seconds afterwards.

same "problem" here. i'm putting extended mile sythetic oil in.. sure enough it turns on at 5k still.

My car has close to 70k miles on it. I only use sythetic.
