The manufacturer, I belive, has not been disclosed. At best it would be an ISLAC and GF-4 rated non-synthetic. There have been reports (from Canada) of something markedly inferior being used.

One might always consider the alternatives of bringing in your own chosen oil, or doing the change yourself. Tain't hard.

Is there any good reason why I should take Prius to the Toyota Dealer to get my oil change or should I take it to a local quicklube or like Wal-Mart?

If you do a search on oil or oil changes you should be able to find more threads than you will care to read. Here's a link to another new one.

on our jeep we traded in we had always taken it to walmart but on the last visit there we found that they tried to lube the brake bleeder screws and all the grease went onto the rotors and in the calipers.

so no more wally world oil changes on any of our vehicles. That was reason enough for me to not take there any longer

I'm really hoping the "Toyota" oil in the US isn't as bad as the stuff I had to deal with

What's really scary is that over a year later, the simple solution - a desiccant breather filter - still hasn't been implemented. That bulk oil tank still has the invert pipe, and that dusty semi truck parking is still nearby.

I'll stick with my own oil changes, thanks
