Has anyone had a similar problem to this one that occured on my 2005 Prius?

1. Conditions: steady cruise at 35 mph on dry asphalt

2. Simultaneous numerous warning lights: Master Warning, Hybrid System Warning, VSC Warning, yellow Brake System Warning, and Malfunction Indicator lamp

3. Stopped and shut down the car. On restart all lights remained.

4. Shutdown the car and restarted again. All lights remained and I tried driving. This time the car would drive only on electric motor and the gas engine would never kick in. When I was down to 1 bar left of battery power, I shut down again.

5. Two further attempts to restart and the car would not not start at all. Had it towed the next morning to Toyota dealer.

My real question comes from what the Toyota maintanence team said they found:
1. The car did start on first attempt when they received it.

2. Scan tool showed only a fault in the stabilty control (only one of the many warning lights I had). They reset the error code and the car scan-code tested fine both static and while driving.

3. They could find no reason for the stabilty control malfunction (said I "must have driven on ice". I had not, but that rationale makes no sense to me anyway).

4. They could offer no reason why a VSC malfunction would cause the gas engine to not kick in, or cause the car not to restart. They said that they could not duplicate those errors.

One final note: this car was subject to the 2005 recall to get the new computer software to prevent engine shutdown at highway speeds. I did have that work done. The folks that worked on my car for this current problem said that the 2 issues are unrelated.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Any insight into how so many failures could cascade from a single stability control malfunction? Any other thoughts or suggestions?

numbers 1-5 sounds about typical for a prius glitch. 3-4 restarts typically ends up resetting the system and what do you know, the dealer restarted after you did the 3-4 restarts yourself unsuccessfully.

failure lights can indeed cascade from one issue. go stick a chunk of leaf in your mass airflow sensor and see what happens

stability control malfunction... not caused by driving on ice. nor would that set codes. what was the code?

I forgot to ask for the specific code found by the Prius tech, and it is not annotated on my receipt. Thanks for the tip about 3-4 restarts resetting the system. That's handy info to have if this were to repeat out in the middle of nowhere.
