Friends: 0 | I have a 2001 Prius. On the dash the following things have never worked in the year I've owned it: --CD player --Clock on the tape player (very dim, appears to reset on shutoff; tape deck works) --DC outlet/cigarette lighter --Some lights for buttons for climate control (but not all) Anyone have any idea where there might be a common cause for these problems? They're all in the lower part of the dash area. I've checked fuses, they seem fine. I'll likely take it in, but I'd like to have some clue before I do. Thanks, Colin |

Friends: 14 | New one on me, unfortunately. The first step has got to be a dash tear-down with attention paid to connector integrity and corrosion. I have not been inside my 2001 dash, ever. In the wayback, there was a problem with the port-installed CD player. It was possible to plug the cable in backwards, and by golly they did. The port was Newark, so this was (informally) known as Newarkitis. Your symptoms sound different, but still that may need to be on the checklist. Good luck and please let us know what they come up with. |

Friends: 0 | Thanks for the thoughts. Who knows if all these things are related, but since they're in such close proximity and nothing else is wrong, I'm guessing there's something in common. |

Friends: 0 | I would look at the fuses first, followed by the wiring harness. My parents had wiring harness trouble with their 1997 Camry XLE which damaged many electrical items. Dave |
