I accidentally powered off the Prius while the ICE was cycling. My senses of reason and routine are weak in the morning.

I didn't see any ill effects after restarting it but I'm wondering what would canceling that initial cycle repeatedly do to the Prius except to improve mpg.

Thanks

I've shut down at what seemed inopportune times. I question it at the time but them just move on.
I would not foresee any problems but would also avoid doing it regularly.

It would be a poorly engineered vehicle that lets you shut down when it would cause harm. The Prius is anything but poorly engineered. You would have to start yanking wires or fuses to cause any shutdown problems.

It seems to me that the Prius is more immune to this sort of "abuse" than a normal (non-hybrid) vehicle. After all, the thing is designed to start and stop the ICE at the command of the Hybrid ECU, not based on driver input. The oil pump is already pumping oil to the bearings before the Engine ECU adds fuel and spark. The reason the ICE stays on longer initially is to get the Catalytic Converter up to temperature so that it is effective at lowering emissions.
