Friends: 10 | Are you sure it's engine noise and not the brake accumulator pump? Tom |

Friends: 12 | My Prius never makes any sort of clatter or ticking noise, except idling and you have to open the hood to really listen for it. Even running 0W-20, the motor sounds happy at idle. The FJ makes more of a rattle at idle, apparently there is a check valve in the PWM purge valve. An easy fix for that is to unbolt the PWM valve and isolate it from the intake manifold. I did that with mine and the annoying ticking/tapping sound disappeared. |

Friends: 0 | In the last week or so I've noticed a distinct tick sound when the car is idling, which has been at the start of driving when it's too cold to stop the ICE at the light. It gets louder once I accelerate, but is lost in the road noise soon after. I googled a bit and manifold leaks are supposed to sound like that, but I'm not sure at what point I'll see some drop in power or MPGs as the sign the dealer should look at it. 63,500 or so as of this week. And while I did only notice it once the radio was accidentally left off, I doubt I missed it all this time just because I usually have the volume up rather high. Is there anything the might have been muffling the noise that might have worked its way loose?...

I did add some Lucas Oil gas additive well over two weeks ago, but I expect that to be long gone. I guess when something bad happens I'll be primed for it. Not today: 49.9MPG on the 16-mile drive back from getting gas after seeing "Transformers"... | |
