I took a picture of the engine air filter when I had it disassembled. You can see the difference of one with 15K miles on it, versus white & brite. It raised a question. The other half seems to be in an unremovable container. Dirty, but unremoveable. Is it washable? Can I get it out, or does the whole container / lid / thingie have to be thrown out in order to have a new one?

Thanks in advance to whomever is in the know.

Carbon filter, doesn't need to be cleaned or replaced.

The carbon charcoal thing in the aircleaner housing is for evaporative emissions control. Realistically I would guess every 5 years for a replacement schedule. No mention of it in the maintenance menu. My FJ Cruiser also has one of those black filters in the housing
