Your observations are consistent with mine.

What could it show? If it isn't charging the battery, and it isn't powering the wheels, then there shouldn't be any arrows. Makes sense.

Now, if they had a simple "engine running" indication, maybe just animating the icon like they do the wheels...

One of us is misunderstanding. Is I read the post there is no ICE icon showing. You seem to be reading it as no arrows from the ICE icon. Certainly there are many times with no arrows from the ICE, but I've never seen the screen without the ICE icon.

Could one of you first two posters please clarify this point?

Evan,

You don't really expect me to take a picture of the MFD while driving, do you? One of your LA colleagues may end up with an extra patient in the ER if I were to do so.

Seriously. I have managed, on a few occasions, to manipulate the gas pedal to the point that no arrows were showing at all, while at the same time I can still feel that the ICE is on. On other instances, I have been stopped at a red light for a minute or two. No arrows were showing to indicate that any activity is taking place and all of a sudden the car shudders slightly as the ICE turns itself off.

Mind you, I have not even had the car for two weeks and am still getting the feel for it. Some of my impressions may not be accurate.

My car is one of the very first 05s with barely 600 miles on the odometer.

Remember the MFD updates every 3 seconds, so the ICE can still be shown as running (or not) when its not (or is).

As I read the original post I understood there was no ICON showing. Now that would be strange.

@toolbox: Can you clarify?

I believe I know what you are talking about. If correct, I've noticed the same thing and have been tempted to take pictures for posting here. Here's what I observe and you can confirm or correct:

When I'm driving in the morning, I can be rolling down an incline. One would assume that the Current MPG reading would be 100. But it's not. It's sometimes around 80MPG and sometimes lower. I [info] over to the other screen and nothing is showing. It's as though the engine is not running, there's no drain on the battery, but it's not charging either. It's just showing no arrows. I [info] back to the consumption screen and it's still at 80MPG.

I have just assumed that it's the engine running to heat itself, but would appreciate some acknowledgement to explain the hit on my mileage.

Toolbox, is this the lack of display you are noticing?

So you guys are saying you're seeing no 'arrows' from the ICE despite it running?? I got the impression you meant no ICE icon at all. Heck I 'no arrows' drive all the time. Frequently I'll 'hyperstealth' over 42mph and have no ice arrows but know that it has to be running.

I thought toolbox was saying no icon which I've never seen.

Where is there an ICE icon? Are you referring to the engine symbol on the MFD "Energy" screen? If so, I am sure that at times it indicates that the ICE is off when I know for a fact that the engine is running.
