Friends: 35 | I was dumb and bought the service package back in 2005 when I was still unsure of the servicing of the car. To date though, I've only spent $0.98 in repairs in 60k miles of driving. |

However if you geared up to DIY, it would cost you $13 for the air filter, $4 for the oil filter, and $4 for a name-brand mineral oil (plus shipping on the parts, and assuming that you look for local sales on the oil). If you are not able to DIY, I suggest that you just pay for the engine oil/oil filter change. Most Toyota dealers usually will charge $30 or less. Then buy the air filter from your dealer's parts dept and replace it yourself. Regarding tire rotation, if you must pay for it then 10K mile intervals are sufficient after the initial rotation at 5K miles.

Friends: 6 | To add a little to Patrick's excellent advice: The air filters are easy even for a non-DIY-type person. They take two minutes (max) and require no tools. Check with your local Goodyear dealer to see if they might rotate your tires for free. Some Goodyear dealers will rotate OEM Goodyear tires for free; at least one in my area does. |

Friends: 0 | Compared to what Volvo dealers charge for regularly schedule maintenance, that's a bargain. I think we were charged something like $400 for 50K miles on our S40. Diagnosing a check engine light requires Volvo hardware and costs $180. |

Friends: 33 | If you ask the price up front then there are no nasty surprises. If the quote is too high then ask them to cut it back (like FI clean no need) or go elsewhere. |

Friends: 12 | There is nothing to "lube" I have searched 4 years now and have yet to find a zerk - or "grease tit" as forum member Hobbit would call them Should be no more than $30 Every 15,000 miles or every 5,000 miles? I rotate mine every 10,000 miles, I check pressure at least once a week. Easy to do yourself, I'd pay no more than $30 to have it done Should take 30 secs max. I would not pay for this Every 15,000 miles?? Many Prius out there have +120,000 miles on original brakes. If there is road salt in winter, clean and lube the caliper slide pins every Spring. Forum member Hobbit has a nice writeup on the rear brakes too The engine and inverter coolant tanks are see-through. I would not pay for this A complete waste of money. A bottle of Techron maybe every 3-4 years. Most of that stuff is snake oil, some can actually harm the fuel system All depends on the road conditions. If dusty, the cabin air filter and engine air filter may even need to be done sooner Bull and S***! There isn't a zerk anywhere on a Prius. Are you sure they didn't confuse your Prius with my FJ Cruiser? Oh, even my FJ doesn't have any zerks on the "steering knuckle." My Dad had a 1980 Toyota pickup that did have front steering knuckles Why? Is it acting up? Check Engine light on?? As you can tell, dealerships are trying to make a lot of profit off servicing, especially for bogus/imaginary service items

Friends: 14 | Please see our excellent Galaxee's posts on what is required. Then see many others about what is easy and cheap to DIY. As more new members join Prius Chat, I fully expect these complaints to increase. Toyota shops are inclined to make money, and the only only who can control your expenses is...you. |
