Cargo area cover

You know the retractable cover for the cargo area? The one that operates like a window shade? Well, sometimes mine doesn't retract. It seems to be correlated to hot/humid days. I was thinking about taking it apart and having a look, but the hard part is that I can't even envision what the problem might be.

Any theories or similar experiences out there?

I haven't experienced this on my Prius yet. But I've experienced it before on my prior cars and window shades after they have accumulated some age and usage. I think it's usually or more an age/usage issue, not heat/humidity.

On a similar vein, does anyone know of a hard cover for the cargo area. I have "Ruff" (a yorkie) who likes to sit on the shelf behind the back seat and look out for us, but he always falls through.

My new one did the same thing and I noticed it was not inserted in the holder correctly with the TOP mark at the top. May not be your problem.. it seems to work like a window shade and sometimes those just don't work.

Mine has done this since I got it... However, the response of "sometimes they just don't work" reminded me to go check out the "Howstuffwords" web site. They had some recommendations for fixing window shades, and they might help my cover. At least now I can visualize some potential issues.
