Default 5K service nightmare!

After a search on PriusChat, I have also experienced the overfilled oil problem. A few days after my 5K checkup, my Prius ceased operation. Many warning lights came on and the vehicle stopped moving! Mind you, the service was performed at a Toyota dealership. I called the roadside assistance and the car was towed to the dealership. Two days later, my wife picked up the car and it was running fine. I looked at the service papers and found out they had overfilled the oil and that was the cause of the Prius breaking down. I was quite upset and called the service technician. He apologized and told me they "accidently" overfilled the oil and that was the problem. This is SO unacceptable! He finally gave me the name of the service manager who I will be in contact with on Monday. My car was at the shop for 2 days because of the incompetence of the service staff. I urge all Prius owners to check the oil level after any servicing before leaving the dealership. I wonder if there can be any long term damage from this. I will update after my chat with the service manager.

That must have been some really over filled car...

I don't use Dealer to change oil... and I am right there to watch... I tell them 3.5 Qt... no more no less...I will add as required when I get home... I stopped having over fills. Book says 3.9 Qt.. but I find that is over full...

As I understand it A Prius Master Tech is the only service personal that is to touch this car... I did not see any execptions for Oil changers...

Seen reported.. over fulls... and no oil at all.. .I will be there as they pour in the oil I bring... or the oil does not get changed.. too many techs treat this like a 450 iron block eng...

When I did the 15k service (I do the 5k stuff myself) I took it to our Toyota dealer with 3.5 quarts of Mobil 1 therefore no overfill. But the reason I write this is that I noticed the my invoice showed that the oil change was NOT done by their Prius Mechanic (other work was). It was farmed out to the general mechanic crew so I don't know if the dealerships have heard anything about pmj877's understanding, if it is true, or they just ignore it.

So do you keep the oil at 3.5 or do you fill up (3.9) when you get home?

Same here have not seen any reason to add any... but still check about 1 hour later... just in case it was not 3.5 Qt... I like it just about to the mark... little under is OK..

The last oil change brought oil, filter, plug seal.. They said no charge.. I asked about labor?? still no charge...

3.5 is right on the nose...i dont let any tech touch it...i do the oil myself...and tire rotation as well...last time a service tech touched my vehicle, they left an old gasket from the oil filter on the block and screwed on a new one with it...needless to say down the road 5 miles im redoing my oil change on the side of the highway because it blew through at the filter...

Thank you, Prius community! The members of this chat group are awesome. My saga continues. I have now talked to the service manager, customer service manager and service attendant. No traction so far. The master Prius tech who overfilled my car should be calling me today. For the hassle, what do you all think of complementary 3 years service and complementary extended warranty? The car is so new I wonder if any long term damage could have happened? I think it is time for me to start doing my own oil changes and always remember---3.5 quarts! No more!

Just be glad that our Prius doesn't react to an faulty oil change as the late model Honda CRV has been shown to.
