Default New Problem 2008 Pruis; Have This Ever Occured to YOU?

I had driven about 3 miles, parked the car for about 45 minutes and started home. First indication "something" wasn't right was the cruise control would not set at any speed. Second indication was that when I tried to "glide", it felt like I was applying the brakes; the car didn't glide (roll) like it should. When I got home, I shut the car down, waited a few minutes, started it up again and everything seemed to be normal on a one mile test drive. When the above problem was observed, no warning lights or abnormal indications on the display. I have a scan tool and zero errors were indicated? Any ideas???

If you have that again, check and make sure you're not in [B].

Had the same symptoms and that was the issue... I had bumped the shift nob.

Thanks for that suggestion. Think you are right. I may have bumped the shift lever after the initial change from park to drive

I would be willing to put money on the above answer. You accidently put it in or left it in B. Just another reason why I rarely ever use it.

My brother-in-law bought a used 2007 Prius about 3 weeks ago. We were at his son's birthday party last night and he said the guy he bought it from told him that you ONLY get regenerative braking when it's in B-mode and told him every time he decelerates for a traffic light or a freeway deceleration ramp to put it in B-mode to get the max amount of charging to the battery. He was driving it that way until I told him yesterday that it was in fact just the opposite... that he'll get zero regenerative braking in that mode.

you're also wrong, he will get regenerative brakes in that mode more than if he was in D on a level road... but it is not the max amount...
He won't get ZERO regenerative braking... unless his battery is already Full green.

LOL Sucks that the original owner wasted so much fuel driving it that way.

You're probably right, and in fact I may have told him that because I remember telling him with the engine dragging you down you'll have less potential to charge the battery. You have me second guessing what I said now. Regardless, he's no longer using B-mode from stoplight to stoplight.

I havent had that problem but I did have a problem driving mine when I first got it. My wife kept stealing it! I finally solved it by letting her go get one of her own.
