Friends: 0 | I'm taking my '04 in for its 100k service on Friday. Up until this point I have changed the oil and filter, air filters, and replaced tires myself. But I'm thinking she needs a good check over at this milestone. I happen to also be going to have my 50 year physical tomorrow, so maybe it's a mid-life thing. Anyway, this is what I plan to have done. Am I missing or misunderstanding anything? Replace spark plugs-- I know they aren't due until 120k, but it will likely be at least 150k until I am back at the dealer. Transaxle fluid - replace Engine and inverter fluid - replace? Is this one fluid or two different ones. Mine is still nice and pink, so maybe I'll let it go?? PCV valve - replace Also, what should I expect to pay for this? Thanks Galaxee for your Sticky in this forum. PA P

Friends: 0 | Thanks for your assistance. I am currently sitting in the waiting room at New Holland Toyota. There were two additional items I wanted checked out before my Platinum warranty expires in 450 miles. One was the broken upper glovebox spring/hinge. It is not covered and would cost about $150. to fix, so that will stay as is. Second is the sticky shifter. It started clicking when shifting almost a year ago and now it sticks-- so we have to nudge it back to the normal resting position, otherwise it will stay in the D or R position. Mechanic just told me there is a plastic piece warped, likely from heat. Toyota will cover this under the Platinum warranty-- the whole shifter needs to be replaced, would have been about $350. for the part. Also, the mechanic said there is a bit of corrosion around the water pump, indicating the start of a slow leak, so he'll replace that under warranty as well. Unfortunately I can no longer say that I have not needed to do anything to this car other than routine maintenance. But I suppose 100k problem-free isn't so bad! The service here is very good-- nice waiting room. In addition to all the comfy chairs, there are four cubicles, wireless internet, free coffee and soft drinks. And they said I would get a free loaner if they aren't finished by the time I need to get to my next meeting. Of course I haven't seen the bill yet! PA P |

Friends: 0 | My bill was $325.50 for spark plugs, engine coolant, and transaxle/inverter fluid. Price is inline I suppose. I also asked about the PCV valve and was told in the Prius it is just an orfice and is not replaceable. Thanks again for your assistance. PA P |

The second photo shows the newly installed PCV valve in upper right corner of removed valve cover (photos from my 2001; 2G is essentially the same). Last edited by Patrick Wong; 11-09-2008 at 05:08 PM. | |
