Default Best Tire Inflation by Experience?

Hello:
I'd like to know what is the best tire inflation specs people have found, I hear again and again that the door sill specs are too low. Are the best numbers 42 front and 40 rear?
Thanks, '04 Black

It's pretty individual. Do you care more about comfort or mileage, comfort or tire life, safety or sensitivity?

I use 42/40, I think the ride is fine and I get good gas mileage. Others do well with what the door says.

It isn't hard to adjust and try several until you find one you like best.

I have used from 38/36 to 35/33. The higher pressure may give you an extra mpg but they'll also give a harsher ride. I fill the tires up to 38/36 and let them go down to 35/33 over the next few weeks.

Note that the Prius factory tires are plain regular tires; there's nothing special about them.
