Friends: 0 | So, I have a question that I am really hoping that someone has an answer to. My car got side swiped and, as a result, the mirror glasss shattered and the back panel fell off (this is the right side passenger mirror). However, the mirror itself is still fully functional and it's power adjusting works perfectly. It seems wasteful/ expensive to bring it to the toyota repair shop (they want to replace the whole mirror. So here is my question, if I am just installing new glass, what do I need to do about the two wires attached to the glass??? (I assume they are for the heating aspect of the mirror). Do they just unattach or do I have to rewire it like a new mirror? Any instructions on how to install/remove the glass and back panel would be AMAZING!! Thank you! |

Friends: 0 | First, I doubt that Toyota will only sell you the glass part only. You certainly can try, but last time I asked (for the three screws attaching the mirror set), they said, "We only see the whole set!". "How much?" I asked. It was around $200-$300. Replacing is very easy for the whole set. Replacing just the glass is not that difficult either. Many here will love to show you some instructions. My advice is go to eBay and buy an old side mirror (from salvaged Prius, for example). And use the glass only. This will cut your cost down to less than $100. Make sure it is a heated one. Replacing the whole set. - pop the small speaker outward with your hands (perpendicularly outward). - you will see three screws - unscrew them (counter-clock wise) (hold the mirror while doing so) - disconnect wiring Replacing the glass. - push the glass lower portion inward as much as possible - slide the glass upward\ - you will see two wires attaching to the glass for heating - disconnect them (reverse the process when installing)

Friends: 22 | You can get the mirror glass separately, though it's not cheap ($50 - $63) new: Toyota Parts Cheap.com |

Friends: 0 | Same thing just happened to me. I ordered the complete assembley from RockAuto.com for 53.00. Pulled the speaker out, loosened the three bolts and was done. Luckly the prius does not have painted mirrors as Rock Auto only provides unpainted products. |

Friends: 0 | I'm having trouble following these instructions. My glass does not seem to slide no matter what I do. I'm afraid to do anything more drastic as I do not want to damage the mirror assembly. Can anyone give me more detailed instructions? |

Friends: 0 | I found another set of instructions. For me, it seems that you push the top in as far as possible and use a screwdriver to pop the mirror out of a pair of bottom tabs, then just pull the mirror out of the tabs on the upper part of the mirror, and disconnect the heating wires. Hope that helps someone! |
