I'm going to do it by the book first time through -

Gold Class car wash
Dry
Lots of lube and clay small sections
NXT 2.0 Tech Wax

Will take well into the afternoon even starting at 7am. Takes me until noon to finish wash/dry/wax.

liverbomb88 - that's an intense routine!

Actually, it's just what you are going to do with an extra wash snuck in -- my description is just a bit detailed and wordy.

BTW, you can extend the life of your NXT 2.0 (synthetic sealant) with Megs Ultimate Quick Wax (UQW). Just spray on and wipe off UQW after your car washes.

I have been claying for years. Liverbomb88, you have the best routine I have ever seen. For anyone wanting to claybar for the first time, follow his advice to a tee.

I just finished detailing a white Civic today and wanted to share a picture with all of you. I washed the car very thoroughly with Dawn. The paint was squeaky clean but felt rough. I then clayed it, and you can see how much grime was still left in the paint after wash (the clay is supposed to be white):

I could see keeping a bucket of soapy water (with Dawn) and a cloth to wipe lube on in addition to spraying QD.

All this talk about claybar is making me think that for Priapus' 5th birthday I should get him a thorough claybar cleaning.

soapy water works as a substitude for QD solution. Don't think it has to be with dawn.

I clayed a much neglected family member's 1992 car, just the roof. Took about an hour just to do the roof. Kept going over a section until no more 'brown stuff' showed up on clay. Did lots of kneading after dirtying both sides.

Claying sure does make a finish turn from rough to smooth. In this case, they would need someone else to polish the paint. I'm not going to get into that.

My Prius will need claying before the next wax. I'll do a portion of the roof to make sure I'm not scratching anything.

My routine is basically the same as Liverbomb's. The claying part goes pretty quick for me. It's the multiple applications of Zaino that takes the longest for me.

I don't use spray detailers when I clay though. To save money I simply put car wash into a spray bottle (with water) and use that to keep the paint wet and lubed up. It's worked fine for years and saves my Quick Detailer for well, quick detailing.

A spray bottle with soapy water is a much beter idea and you are less likely to pick up contaminants that could fall into the bucket then you go litterly scubbing them into your paint.
