Dashboard dimmer question

When I turn on the headlights, I know I can dim the dashboard display and MFD with the dimmer control. However, I have noticed that on my Prius, the dimmer only seems to have three settings-- full on, medium brightness, and completely off. Is this the normal functioning of the dimmer dial? It doesn't gradually dim as I turn the dial down...

That's not typical for the US prius...I think the EU one has stepped settings like that however. Wonder if you go the Euro dimmer?

NZ and AUS ones have the stepped dimmer.
