Default drivers side mirror scratched

a stupid f$%K morotciclist ran and scratched my driver's side mirror (glass part only - no damage to the housing)

so, question is, can i just replace the glass, and how much it would cost me, what is the best and least expensive way to do this?

it is 2008 prius with package II.

thanks

Speaking generally not prius or Toyota specifically

I think that they sell universal mirror shapes in advanced auto parts. To remove it you heat it up with a heat gun to soften the glue and then gently pry it out.

thanks for the link. this may work fine, but i am kind of hesitant to replace it because (like you said) it is a heated mirror glass, so i would lose that functionality.
maybe I can try polishing the glass to remove the scratches?
what polishing compound can i try?

I cannot believe that toyota does not sell the glass only!
there got to be someone who is in aftermarket business who makes aftermarket mirror glass.

Try a salvage yard. Buy any 04-09 mirror assembly and then take the glass and wiring out of it.

I think your choices are:

1. You can get OEM mirror glass only (Toyota does make it). Cost is $45 at parts.com:

2008 Toyota Prius Mirror glass - Parts.com

2. Get aftermarket mirror glass that's supposedly the same shape as OEM and that you stick on. Here's one for $20:

04-09 TOYOTA PRIUS DRIVER MIRROR GLASS:eBay Motors (item 390101404484 end time Nov-01-09 12:05:14 PST)

3. Search eBay or salvage yards for just the mirror glass or the whole mirror assembly. Here's a current eBay search results for "Prius driver mirror" which has some stick on mirror glass and whole mirror assemblies:

prius driver mirror, great deals on eBay Motors on eBay!
