Friends: 0 | OK--I was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem--I closed the rear hatch the other day in my 2006 Prius, and the inside rear view mirror just fell off, taking some of the windshield glass with it!! Took it to the local dealer, they called the regional manager, and since it's off warranty, they won't touch it. Toyota national customer service says the same thing--they won't fix it for a car that has 72K miles on it. Now I understand that the warrany period has run out, but this seems to be way beyond normalcy. I just don't expect a rear view mirror to spontaneously break off when a door is closed--and Toyota's argument that the car has too many miles on it doesn't hold--I expect certain things to last the lifeof the car, and the inside mirror is one of them. Any opinions? Anone else this happened to? |

Friends: 19 | I heard that if the frame around the windshield gets rusted then it will stress the glass to cause it to break. I would check the frame for rusts. Good luck! |

Friends: 1 | Hi, MVFlyer, Your car insurance should pay for your windshield replacement [maybe in full & shouldn't increase your premium rates (under the comprehensive part of your policy)] & that should include the removal of your mirror from the old (bit of) glass & attaching it to your new glass (as it would in any normal windshield replacement). But I agree with 2009Prius to check for rust (& its cause, if present) in case any body work repairs are in order before the new glass gets set in. Ken (in Bolton,Ct) |

Friends: 0 | Thanks for the suggestion--I don't see anything that resembles rust--it's a Northern California car, and hasn't been subjected to salt--and I'm in the dry part of the SF Bay area, so it's not in fog all the time. I'll post a picture of the damage when I get a chance for yuks and giggles. Thanks! MVF |

Friends: 0 | There is special glue available at a windshield repair shop that should work to re-glue it back to the windshield. Not a big problem to fix at all. |

Friends: 1 | Hi, Mike K, Are you saying that the special adhesive you suggest will glue the glass piece back into the remainder of the windshield because I wouldn't trust the safety of the rest of the windshield glass in MVFlyer's car since he wrote in the 2nd line of his original post that when the mirror fell off it took "some of the windshield glass with it!" ?
