Friends: 0 | When i changed my prius's oil, i tried tipping the left side and a good amount of oil came out... that extra oil would have been hanging around if i hadnt done that... of course, when i did this, all four tires were on the ground. i wasnt on any stands or anything... i just readjusted the oil pan and then raised the left side of the car with the jack... anyone else try this? |

Friends: 0 | I jack my car all the way back to the ground during the oil change to get some extra out but never thought of jacking up the other side. Sounds like a good idea. |

Friends: 0 | Yes, I raise the driver's side which not only tips the car slightly but also raises the entire front end a bit and makes it much easier to get under there. . _H* |

Friends: 0 | How much extra oil do you think it gets out? I bet its not more then 100 ml. Does the 2010 have a similar "problem". I wonder why they would design the gen II like that. |

3.9 US quarts rated capacity = 3.69 liters or 3690 mL. 100 / 3690 = 2.7%, not enough to worry about.

Friends: 0 | I pour the clean 1/2 quart I'm not gonna use thru the system with the plug out, it get's plenty dirty on it's way thru... one could always turn the motor over a few times to make sure all the oil is out |

however the question is: Is getting rid of that dirt worth wasting half a quart of motor oil? I wonder if a less expensive liquid might do the job just as well...

Friends: 63 | Have you tried an oil extraction pump? I've heard the recovery rates are at least as good, if not better, and it sounds like a much easier and cleaner way to change the oil. And if you've got the oil up to temperature before removing it, there shouldn't be any sludge, because all that crap will be suspended in the oil. |
