Friends: 0 | I just bought my 2005 Prius and LOVE IT!!! It's great and I'm averaging 50 mpg!!! Anyway...I chose not to buy the service contract with it, and want to cut the dealership out of all maintenence (they really stick you with their overpriced service.) Anyone know a good mechanic who does Priuses in the bay area? |

Friends: 0 | Hate to tell you, but except for routine repairs such as oil change and tire rotation, only those with the Toyota scan tool can do repairs, which usually means the dealer. Even major brake jobs needing bleeding need the tool to operate the actuators. You can still get a 7yr/100K extended warranty through this site for under $1K, and this site does benefit from it. |

Friends: 0 | After an alignment, the zero point steering adjustment needs to be made. There is a similar adjustment for VSC. Has to be done by the dealer, unless Sears has the Toyota diagnostic program. |

Tile sevice bay entry/ rainy season/ and knee surgery inspired crutches weren't happy with the situation. But we survived... with much creattive vocabulary... Frankly, I'm a coward... and wouldn't trust non dealer mechanics on most of the prius. Maybe in another couple of years, but right now, since the car's so much fly by wire... I just expect a non-dealer mechanic wil not have the complete tool and software set. YMMV cas
