Default Anyone in the Bay Area, CA know a good Prius mechanic?

I just bought my 2005 Prius and LOVE IT!!! It's great and I'm averaging 50 mpg!!!

Anyway...I chose not to buy the service contract with it, and want to cut the dealership out of all maintenence (they really stick you with their overpriced service.)

Anyone know a good mechanic who does Priuses in the bay area?

Hate to tell you, but except for routine repairs such as oil change and tire rotation, only those with the Toyota scan tool can do repairs, which usually means the dealer.
Even major brake jobs needing bleeding need the tool to operate the actuators.

You can still get a 7yr/100K extended warranty through this site for under $1K, and this site does benefit from it.

i agree with DanMan, but for tire rotation, balance, and alignment, sears automotive in cupertino is one i trust. at one year and 4k miles, they found that the alignment was a bit off, and now it steers better. also found a screw in one tire just before we took a 500 mile round trip. $15 or so to plug it. worth the price.

After an alignment, the zero point steering adjustment needs to be made. There is a similar adjustment for VSC. Has to be done by the dealer, unless Sears has the Toyota diagnostic program.

Well... Sunnyvale Toyota has treated me well. When I caled to ask about chemical/exhaust smell in cabin after they did the 5k.... they had me right back in to check it out, at their expense.

Tile sevice bay entry/ rainy season/ and knee surgery inspired crutches weren't happy with the situation. But we survived... with much creattive vocabulary...

Frankly, I'm a coward... and wouldn't trust non dealer mechanics on most of the prius. Maybe in another couple of years, but right now, since the car's so much fly by wire... I just expect a non-dealer mechanic wil not have the complete tool and software set.
YMMV
