Default Updating the 2003 Navigation System

I'm a proud owner of a 2003 Prius with the nav package. I can't begin to describe how useful the system is and how much I enjoy using it. I recently decided to spring for the latest Navigation DVD Update Disk after finding myself in no man's land while traveling in Western Virginia.

After purchasing the DVD thru my local dealer ($250 list p/n MN 00125-DVD04-CY), I drove home with my prize possession thinking the installation would be a snap. Now most folks would wonder why I didn't ask the dealer how to specifically do the upgrade. Well, I guess it's kinda' like asking for directions -- you only do it when there's no other recourse.

While the procedure is very simple it's not exactly an intuitive process. So for those of you that have a problem asking for directions here's the procedure.

1. Remove the NAV Unit protective cover plate under the front passenger seat. It's much easier if you move the seat to it's frontmost position and access the unit from the rear door.

2. With the ignition key turned to the accessories position slide the lever located on the left side of the NAV Unit all the way to the right until the DVD loading tray is open. You should see a warning message on the console screen notifying you that the DVD door is open.

3. Press the not so obvious button located on the far left side of the NAV Unit lever you just moved to eject the current DVD.

4. Insert the new DVD, close the DVD door by sliding the lever to the left, and replace the protective cover. You're done!

It is extremely simple to replace the DVD. The not so easily identified eject button had me stumped for a while but I eventually got it. I trust your update will go much easier.

Same as on the 04/05, except the NAV unit is under the driver's seat.
