NHW11 accelerator pedal

The NHW11 is the 2001-2003 model Prius. Sometimes, its accelerator pedal will fail, and unlike the power steering, Toyota has not offered to repair this for less than full retail.

A generous PriusChatter 'OldManJimbo' sent me his failed unit, and I am trying to make it work again. Possibilities include cleaning the potentiometer wipers, and resetting the angle at which the potentiometers are attached to the main assembly.

If anyone here has been down this path, and not seeing my parallel ramble on 'Yahoo technical Prius stuff', please post your experiences. Perhaps an "accelerator pedal swap" program can be created.

This does not apply for the new Prius model. Y'all have Hall Effect sensors, and not know (to me) to have failed at all.

I have performed extensive testing and repair on "OldManJimbo's", swapped it into my vehicle, and have now begun road testing.

To any with 2001-2002 Prius who may be confronting the replacement of this component, please contact me! It may be that the 2003 comes with an ECU more tolerant of unusual signals.

What's the model designation for the Prius before the 'Classic'? There's NHW11 for 'Classic', NHW20 for the HSD one.

Maybe it's easier to refer to the Prius by it's model designation, like how others refer to a specific Civic as the EK, or the old Toyota AE86 aka Trueno/Levin.
