$95-$133 each fill up would seriously crimp my style IF that style included an SUV or large PU in my stable. Luckily Sapphire lives alone and sips gas like I sip a martini.

Reminds me of that Snickers(?) commercial a while back where he's driving the uber boat and saying "cost me a c-note to fill up the thing" oh how close he was.

My wife and I love our Prius, but I'm a professional carpenter so every day I drive a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 because I'm either transporting tools or materials. Over the summer I got stuck filling up when gas was $3.49 everywhere in the greater Milwaukee area. Total price, $112.55

Reason I got the Prius. The ONLY reason I got it was I was paying damned near $100 a week just to fill the truck. This was when diesel was still under $3 a gallon, now it is near $4, and I had to put a little in the truck and get 12 gallons for my tractor, $90 for 25 gallons. My poor truck misses me, I miss driving it, but I sure as hell don't miss filling it up.

This is a bit off topic, but the chief test pilot for some super-exotic airplane, I think it was the B-70, said (upon the conclusion of its final flight to the Air Force Museum), that he'd do anything to keep it flying, except pay for it himself!

It sucks that there are so many cool vehicles, etc., out there, but they're all hobbled by their constant need for energy, and our ability to pay for it.

Anyhow, two random thoughts.

When I'm asked about how much I pay for gas with my long commute, people are generally amazed that I'm still spending only about $20/week for gas. The guy in the next cube over is trying to figure out how to buy a Prius to replace his Camry (he has a similar commute to mine)...

Gas was $2.50 a gallon when I got my car, and has gone up almost 50% since then. I expect to see it continue to go up over time.

So it goes.

So when I'm paying $100 to gas up my Prius, Doc Vijay will be paying $300 to gas up his Lincoln Navigator.

Prius = 48 mpg
Navigator = 17 mpg (But it can tow 9,000 lbs.)
