I live in kansas City, which is a detailed area in the 2006 Prius navigation system, but most of the state is very low detail - even the state capital jeferson City is low detail.

Is there a way to get more map data into the system?? Like some sequence of key presses, then feed some data through the cd player??? (Probally not - that would have made too much sense. )

For the life of me I don't know why they put such a powerful computer in a car, but only go 1/2 way with it's features. It should have a standard usb plug for uploading/downloading information to laptops and palmtops. You should be able to have a much larger selection of icons and the ability to add custom icons. There should be a way to program additional display screens and voice commands.

Sorry, no data upgrades. The best you can hope for is that a new DVD release has more details in the areas you want. I wish I could upload new POI data as phone numbers change, and stores come and go. No dice.

One thing to check is that you are in the right region, other than that, "what you see is what you get."

Two words: "Revenue Stream"

They (the Nav System Manufacturer) wants you needing new DVD's, and wants you buying new DVD's. It's a big part of their income...

Usually with every new update, there will be new detail routes that will come with the DVD. When I updated my Odyssey's NAVi DVD, it came with tons of local routes in rural areas. It made the searching much slower (and it shows). It made me wonder, could I have the option of not having them?! Anyway, the only way I know is to "wait for new release"... A popular term in software industry.

I have an 06 Prius with the 5.1 nav sytem. I have many times typed in address for fairly new address and found they did not come up. I would like to have an up dated disc but will not pay $300 for it. I have looked on E bay with no garentee of an updated disc. Anyone have a solution? Thanks!

I just recently updated my 07 with the gen 5 7.1 disc. I live in Hawaii and it provides nav for all the islands. Version 6.1 doesn't. The downside is that you cannot type addresses, but you can type POIs and phone numbers. Once you do that it gives you the address. It shows in detail all the roads and most POIs. I bought the disc on ebay for $31.00 and $4.00 for shipping. I know the 9.1 version is out but right now it is going for 194.00. Oahu probably wont be adding any roads soon, so I will trade mine in before I buy another disc. Does anyone else here live in Hawaii with a 8.1 or newer version? I would like to know if they can type addresses.
