Since the battery is NOT covered (it's in the list of exclusions) under the platinum extended warranty, what is the dealer warranty of the battery? I've heard 8 yrs. (10 in Calif). Is that right? And how many miles is that good for? Thanks

My understanding is 8 years or 100,000 miles-which ever comes first.

I just asked the Toyota Walnut Creek (California) dealer about the battery warranty and he said it was 8 years, 100K mi. Other PriusChat members have said it's 10 years, 150K mi... How do I find documentation? Thanks...

You can download the eBrochure for the Prius from Toyota.com. It details all of the warranties. For the battery it shows 8 years/100,000. I live in Washington. It may be different in California or elsewhere.

It sounds. like you are talking about the small battery in back. Not the trac battery.

Hmmm, that's interesting, since I was told (by Capitol Toyota in San Jose) that the battery warranty is 10 years/150000 miles. This is apparently a California specific warranty period. This is for the traction battery pack, NOT the lead-acid accessory battery.

california emissions states: 10 years/150k
the rest of us: 8 years/100k

this is for the hybrid battery and powertrain- no little 12v battery is expected to last that long!

Just to be a pedantic PITA:

1. This info is in your Prius' owners' manual (or maybe it's in the maintenance guide?). Anyway, you should read both of them.

2. It's Toyota's warranty, not "the dealer's" warranty. Any Toyota dealer will provide warranty service.

I'm not so sure... my previous car ('97 Sunfire) just kicked it's factory installed battery last fall... thats about 8 years, right?

then again, that car was a freaking beast and passed all expectations of anything until last fall when it started falling apart (lost the battery and the carborator in less than a month of each other)
