We just made an offer to an Internet Coordinator at one of or local dealerships for ~ $1450 under MSRP. They accepted the offer without haggling. Did I miss something? I have read here that the Internet Coordinators have a different goal with regard to sales than a generic floor salesman does, but based on other sales info I've seen here i wasn't expecting to get much better than $500 under MSRP... Makes me think we should have offered invoice price...

What package ?

msrp is about 11% over invoice for the base Prius, but package profit is about 30%.

Package 6 (HK) + a couple add ons. The 2006 Prius Calculator spreadsheet that I found here basically showing them still getting $1600 in profit. We essentially took the midpoint between invoice & msrp and conceeded a little bit to the dealer as a starting point.

When do you pick up the car? I contacted ALL the dealerships within a 200 mile radius of Seattle via email in the middle of December and only ONE dealership could promise me the exact car I wanted at retail pricing with a 4 week lead time. They found me a black/tan/P7 2 weeks after I put down a deposit, but I held out for black/grey/P7. I picked up the car almost 4 weeks to the day I put down the deposit. BTW, I'm in the Seattle area, and I bought the car in middle/northern OR.

You certainly put more effort into your search johnnieliu than we have, only half a dozen serious inquiries on our part...

We don't have a delivery date yet, sending the deposit check today. We have been told that the HK package is not built as frequently as some others and we may have to wait 6 to 8 weeks for ours to come in. That is fine by me, gives us time to sell our current vehicle and lower our loan amount. We should still take delivery in 2nd Qtr and get 100% of the 2006 tax benefits.

Don't know about your area, but last week 3 dealers in Northern Virginia were advertising deeply discounted Prii -- including $24,423+198 "processing" for package #6 at millercars.com. Now that the month is ending they seem to have gone up a bit.

Picked mine up Sunday

Sweet. Looking at the Toyota site, it seems that Package 6 isn't allocated to the PNW, so they probably have to do a special order or trade. I originally wanted P6, but the allocations helped push me to P7. Don't want to sound pessimistic, and I really to hope that you'll get you vehicle, but several dealerships in my search gave me a "guesstimate", but only one really sounded firm in their commitment to finding me a vehicle. I put down a refundable $250 and they delivered. Just keep pressing the dealer on status, and if you feel they won't deliver in your anticipated time frame, move on.

I had a similar offer from a Moses Lake dealer's internet sales specialist. I was told something like $1200 below msrp. I said OK, find me a car. She pushed hard for cars they had on their Idaho lot. One was acceptible, so I said, ok, email me a bill of particulars for this car with price and VIN number. Surprise, the quote was $1000 over invoice. When I called and asked what was going on she said "my sales manager said we have to sell above invoice" (wish I had framed that email). Needless to say, I walked on their quote.

Moral of the story: get it in writing with a VIN number.

We are also in the Everett area - do you mind sharing which internet coordinator you are working with?
