Sorry, this may sound like a really stupid question from a "newbie" but I was driving last night and I noticed an indicator light that says "Ready". This did not come on in the first 400 miles of my driving, but now appears to stay lite whenever I drive the car. The instruction manual simply says driver ready light. I could find no other reference to it in the manual.

My question is, when should it be illuminated and what does it mean? Should it be on all the time? Is it related to my voice navigation system? Is there a way to turn it off? Thanks for being patient with me.

My understanding is that it just means "ready to drive." Everything is OK and powered up with the hybrid system, and your car is telling you it's ready to go. Basically, it's the "On" light. I suspect it was there for the first 400 miles, but you just didn't notice it.

I agree that it has probably been there the whole time. It isn't "in your face" so you could easily miss it in all the other fun flashy things going on with a new Prius.

Think of "ready" as the car's way of telling you that even though it hasn't made any "engine noises" yet - and may stop making them at any time - that the car is "on" and that the go-pedal will make you go.

Dang. Double post... might as well say something else...

That green "ready" light is often the only way I can tell that my Rav4EV is on, so I'm quite used to it. Like seeing an old friend in the Prius.

I'm off-topic here, but you own an electric Rav4? That's so cool . How many miles does it have on it, and what's it like just driving with no "engine noises" at higher speeds?

It is VERY cool. I have 32k miles on mine now. There are many that have passed 150k miles on the original battery pack.

There is no better feeling than a single-speed transmission with no noise and instant response to throttle input. LOTS of information in my EV link in my sig. Knock yourself out. The Rav4EV is just one of several EVs that I've owned, and one of even MORE than I've had the pleasure of piloting.
