We took delievery of our 2006 Prius March 25, 2006. we love it. It now has about 450 miles on it. Everything was working fine until last night when I went out after dark to pick up a Pizza. The car started fine. However the Headlights/tail lights would not work. They would come on if you flashed the lights, however the lights would not come on when you turned the switch to the on position. Needless to say, I did not drive the car with out lights at night. The car is at the dealership and so far they have not figured out what is going on. The lights had worked properly the night before. Has anyone else had this kind of failure?

Very odd. Did you have the HID headlights or the standard ones?

Please let us know what the diagnosis was, and good luck. I'm sure it'll be covered by the warranty, whatever it is.

My Prius has the standard headlights. The dealership thought it was odd also. They did rent me a car to use since the car was going to be in the shop for at least another day. I will keep you posted.

Sounds like a headlight switch or a blown fuse to me. Best of luck getting it checked out.

Most likely a switch/relay failure since I am pretty sure the headlights and taillights are on separate fuses. A lot of cars even have the left and right side lamps on separate fuses so that a fault in one circuit doesn't take out both sides. I haven't seen this failure reported before in the various Prius forums I mostly have been luking in for the past two years.

The Hightlight problem has been resolved. It was a short in one of the wires going to the headlight switch which shorted out the switch. Once they replaced the headlight switch things were fine. I hope that is the end of the problem. Now we can enjoy driving our new Prius again. The dealership was very helpful during the entire experience.
