Friends: 0 | I just got my new 2006 Prius and the rear view camera does not seem to be giving me the "correct" view of things when in reverse. Cars that are within inches of me look like they are 5 feet away. I searched for an adjustment of it in the manual (to no avail) and was wondering if anyone else noticed this and found a way to change it. When I test drove an 06 Prius, the rear view camera did not have as distorted of a depth perception as mine does. Any suggestions? Thanks! 2006 Barcelona Red Pkg 7 |

Friends: 10 | Darell has it right. The camera is very wide angle, which is perfect for parking and backing. When I first got mine, I practiced in an empty parking lot where I could back up and look at the lines. It works very well, and you can see almost straight down past the rear bumper (within about 6"). Tom |

Definitely doable since most of the 2006 MFD displays are composite video. Just have to have the guts to add a video switch and find a similar camera as the rear with a good mounting scheme. | |

As for the original post I say just get used to it. I did and I actually like it.

Friends: 0 | Linothin noticed a difference between a rental and his new car. Could be a memory glitch (mine doesn't work so good anymore) or a real difference. Can somebody post a photo of the camera view so us old-timers can see what we're missing and also so others can see what is a "normal" view? Maybe a couple of shots, one with just open parking lot, one with a recognizable object nearby, and one with the object farther away ... |

Friends: 0 | Thanks for all the help with the camera. Maybe it's just me, but I don't really see what it's useful for with the view I currently have. On the car I test drove, I was able to actually tell if I was about to hit (eeek) something when in reverse. Now, on my car, I feel that if I look at the camera I'm more likely to misjudge the depth as cars that are centimeters away look far. What do you all find the camera useful for... right now it just seems to give me a very good look at the asphalt on the ground. Guess I'll know if i'm about to run something over... but doesn't seem to give me any extra help in determining if I'm going to bump the car behind me when parallel parking or getting out of tight spots. |
