I got some warranty information from a friend who referred me to this site. The warranty was like $990 as opposed to the one sold at the dealership for just shy of $2000. Now this warranty I just found out does NOT cover the batteries. The person I spoke with said that there is already a factory warranty that covers the batteries for like 8 years/100,000 miles. Is this true or is he pulling my leg? Does anyone know anything about such a warranty? He also said that CA already has a warranty for the batteries for up to 150,000 mile and I forget how many years.
I saw that some people already had to pay out of pocket for those batteries and my husband spoke with a mechanic who works at a Toyota dealership who recommended that we sell our Prius after 3 years because the batteries are only built to last no longer than 3 and half years. This bums me out, so someone please tell me that this is not true. thank you for any information you can provide me! - Jayne

In California (if that's where you purchased the car), the warranty on the hybrid components (such as the large battery) is 10 years/150k miles.

To date, no one has had to replace the battery that I'm aware of. Somebody is feeding you a large spoonful of BS.

Welcome to PC Jayne.
As I'm sure you've already noticed, there is heaps of good info here.
Use the Search function and you'll find more hybrid battery info than you can use. :P
Bottom line: Hybrid battery is designed for the life of the car.

Yes, welcome Jayne.

There are Prii that have over 200,000 miles on the original battery.

Just for the record, My HV battery has been replaced under warrantee around 30K miles.

The story is on here. So, it's not true that 'no one' has had one fail.

Thanks all! That does make me feel so much better. I am really glad we decided to get one. I just got a little over 65mpg for my last fill up. 438 miles on just a little over 6 gallons. I haven't seen an under $20 fill-up on I don't know how long.

Tempus - Why did they replace your battery? Was it due to battery failure? Did it resolve the problem?

Interesting because I just purchased a new 2007 Prius and my dealership was very specific and said it wasn't covered for 10yrs/150k, it was 8yrs/100k.
