Does anybody know if the battery in the fob goes dead can you still start the car or not?

short answer: yes, you can start the car

The way I understand it, YES!

The key fob will work - even with NO battery. Simply plug it into the dash.

And to get in, you use the tiny mechanical key that's in the fob.
