Page 110 of the 2006 Prius Owner's Guide is devoted to explaing the functions of the Headlights and Turnsignals with Automatic Light Control System.

There is a diagram (23P137a) that shows the steering stalk light switch with a Position 3, with the word "AUTO" printed on the switch.

The description of the Automatic Light Control system differs from the Automatic Light Cut Off system described later, on page 112.

If you own a fully optioned higher package 2006 Prius, do you have this AUTO printed on your light switch as depicted on page 110 of the manual?

My expectation would be that all of the functional options available would be on a 2006 package 8 model, but our package 8 does not have "AUTO" on the light switch.

I'm curious if other cars do or do not.

True auto headlights are available on 2006 Prius's in other countries, but not available on the ones sold in the US. You're not missing anything you're supposed to have.

They should've included AUTO in the US models vs the Canada models. AUTO is pretty redundant since we're stuck with DRLs up here. All AUTO does in Canada is turn on/off your rear lights.

<sigh>. You're not the first person to question this lol. The beginning of the manual does state that the vehicle may be shown with equipment that's optional or not available in your vehicle.

US cars do not have AUTO headlights.

It's amazing I didn't run into the Corolla forum and question where the hell is my power moonroof when my 2000 Corolla manual said I had a power moonroof and we had the fully loaded LE!

Yeah but our DRLs aren't full intensity. It looks to me like 80% intensity.

Yeah, wish I'd known I didn't have that feature before I read the manual so I could have skipped those pages. I guess the sensors would have gone in the forward left corner of the dash.

The lights will turn off automatically once you power off the car and open the driver's door. If your light switch is in the headlight on position the headlight will turn on automatically when you power on the car. At least on a 06 package 4 with any sigh of auto on the switch. Now if we only had a light sensor that would automatically dim the dash lights.
