I am looking to buy an 07 Prius and was wondering if anyone here has strapped a longboard to the roof. If so, does it seem safe and non-damaging to the board? It just seems like the top is too round to safely strap a board to. This won't keep me from buying but I am just curious.

I'd think you'd want a rack for the roof. Or you could do this:

I thought of that but only one other person could ride with me. Do you think a soft rack would work? Or would I need to install a hard rack?

Definitely go with the soft racks. Any racks will reduce your mileage but hard racks will significantly reduce your mileage because you won't want to remove them after every session. I have used soft racks on our Prii - they work just fine.

I'll have to disagree with you. All of my experience with hauling a longboard on softracks has been far from acceptable. They just aren't secure enough for comfortable driving at freeway speeds, and I like having my stick safe. Here's a LINK to a similar thread, and my solution with a easily removable hard rack. It just depends on how safe you want the stuff on your roof to be.
