Friends: 0 | My car just passed the 175,000 mile mark this week. The battery finally gave in this afternoon. No warning, just dash went black and car wouldnt start. Jumped the car off another vehicle and drove it home. Got home (20 minute drive) then turned car off. Tried to start car again and nothing - just blackness. Went to Autozone and got a Gold Duralast with replacement terminals for ~$95. Theres no vent hole on it, but it fits great. Works great too, now hopefully it wont overcharge and leak all over the boot. Btw i use all sorts of motor oils and the car still runs great. You dont 'have' to use synthetics or expensive conventionals to keep the engine running strong. |

Friends: 0 | I estimate that I've saved 2000 gallons of fuel now that I've driven 100,000 miles. |

Friends: 0 | Hi, Just joined this great site; lots of very useful DIY repair info here to supplement my factory service manuals . I ordered the car in October 2004, took delivery in May 2005. It has 140,000 miles on it. I've replaced tires twice and am due for the third set very soon. Switched to Goodyear Assurance Comfortreads which greatly improved handling in rain / snow but reduced the mileage by about 1-2 MPG. Still average about 48 MPG Summer and 45 MPG winter. Brand of gasoline makes a big difference: as much as 4 MPG less with the "quickie- mart " brands, which I now avoid. Problems have been limited to an HID lamp replacement at 112,000, changed both as cheap insurance; the engine water pump(noisy bearing) and belt at about 139,000. Otherwise routine filter / oil / coolant changes per the service schedule, some wiper blades and bulbs.... My round trip commute to the office is 82 miles, most of it highway. Love this car! |

Friends: 0 | Hey everyone- I am not a current Prius owner, but am looking to purchase one and saw an ad for a 2005 Prius with 144K miles for $4,300. I was hoping current/past Prius owners who have passed the 100K mile mark (especially in only 3-4 years) could provide some insight, thoughts and feedback on the ad - seems to good to be true, no? Any suggestions on what specifically I should ask the owner? If I do a test drive, anything in particular I should look / hear for? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |
